friendship over books

Sometimes when I try writing groups it’s like I am trying to recreate my sixth form English class. It was a very cosy environment where everyone was friendly, funny and we discussed books. At the time I thought that’s what life would be about. Kind of life as a huge book and film discussion group. We even studied the handmaids tale before the sequel was thought of!

I sometimes feel kind of despondent because I don’t seem to be able to recreate that kind of fraternity. Friendship seems to disintegrate, slip down the drain. Life is drudgy. Journalists are screaming at you from TV screens about how bad everything is.

Hmmm.
