Lao Tzu says ‘trying to get rich ties people in knots’. There are other bits and bobs in the Tao Te Ching which give the indication that Lao Tzu was pretty firmly against the idea of wealth accumulation. All I can say is Lao Tzu wasn’t living in 2019. He didn’t have to try and rent an apartment in my city. He wasn’t faced with the sky high cost of everything. I guess maybe In a way he was because he says ‘the fields are full of weeds’, ‘rich people wandering around with fancy clothes and weapons’. But when he got pissed off with the state of the world he was able to jump on the back of a buffalo
